Paul Olscamp, President

Paul was born in Montreal Quebec and lives in Coeur d’Alene with his wife Ruth Pratt. Paul is a retired Philosophy Professor and University President. Paul has published widely in his field and is a former Reagan appointee to the National Endowment for the Humanities Council. Paul is an active member of the Coeur d’Alene Commission of the Arts. Paul has two children, Adam and Rebecca, and four grandchildren.

Jim Elder, Vice President

Born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, Jim headed east after high school and joined U. S. Senator Frank Church’s staff. While working for Church, he completed his education at University of Maryland and American University, with a BA and MBA. After completing a successful business career, he and his wife, Helen, returned to Coeur d’Alene in 2000. He joined the CASA Board in 2004. In addition to CASA, he is on the City Council for Fernan, a Commissioner for the Lake City Development Corporation, a member of the Parking Commission, past President of the Coeur d’Alene Rotary Club, president of Concerned Businesses of North Idaho and a member of the University of Idaho North Idaho Advisory Council.

Tony Berns, Treasurer

Tony Berns is the Executive Director of the Lake City Development Corporation, the city of Coeur d’Alene’s redevelopment agency. Tony graduated from the University of Idaho and worked in the forest products industry for 20 years prior to his return to Idaho in 2001. Tony is a member of the Coeur d’Alene Rotary Club, serves on the Board of the Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, serves as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Natural Resources Committee, and serves on the Kroc Community Center Advisory Board.

Samm Haight, Secretary

Samm joined the 1st Judicial District CASA Board of Directors in May 2004. Samm retired from Bank of America Corporation in July 2002 after 30 years of employment. Over her 30 year tenure she performed as a Banking Center teller and moved through the business to Assistant Manager of a 280 staff operations facility supporting 1,100 bank units. She retired as Vice President and Personnel Manager of the Electronic Banking Division. Samm was an active member of the Bank’s Youth Job Program and developed the Reading Pals program bringing business to local students in a weekly reading program. Samm is currently the office manager for her husband’s architectural firm.

Kent Propst, Member

Kent Propst is vice president for community relations at North Idaho College. Prior to joining NIC, he was a vice president at Peru (NE.) State College, his alma mater and an institution he served for over 20 years. At NIC, he supervises a department responsible for public relations including government relations, media relations, communications, marketing and publications, and the college website. Raised on a central Nebraska farm, he has been a newspaper reporter/editor, a college sports information director, alumni relations director and other activities. He is active in the Coeur d’Alene Area Chamber of Commerce and other area chambers. He and his wife Becki are parents of two grown children.

Sara Fladeland, Member

Sara Fladeland is the Alumni Relations Coordinator and a part-time instructor for North Idaho College. Prior to working at North Idaho College , Sara earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Lewis-Clark State College. Sara worked in the sports management industry for 10 years working for companies such as IronmanUSA/CDA Chamber of Commerce; the organizing committee for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah; the Olympic Regional Development Authority in Lake Placid, N.Y.; and ESPN Great Outdoor Games. Sara is currently pursuing her Masters in Education at the University of Idaho. She enjoys spending time with her family and all the wonderful outdoor activities North Idaho has to offer.
