General Description
The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the overall management of the Agency and all aspects of the Agency’s operations. This primarily involves the supervision and coordination of a volunteer service program, which provides CASA services to abused, abandoned and neglected children. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Fundraising and resource development (events, grant writing, in-kind, etc.)
- Agency/Program Management
- Community and public/professional relations
- Personnel (staff, volunteers) management
- Liaison to the Board of Directors
- Fiscal management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Social work or another closely related discipline, or the equivalent work experience in a related field. At least two years of successful experience administrating an organization or division involved in human services.

Salary/Benefits/ Job Status
Salary is based upon credentials, experience and resources. There is no provision for overtime pay; this is an exempt position. Benefits include vacation pay and sick leave. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of CASA’s Board of Directors. Employment is “Employment at Will,” and that employment may be terminated by either party at any time, with our without cause or notice.
Executive Director’s Position Responsibilities
Fundraising and Resource Development
- Seek funding through grants, contributions, events, etc. that will provide for the adequate support of current and future Agency operations.
- Research and prepare grant proposals and other funding applications.
- Develop and maintain a donor base for both monetary and non-monetary resources.
- Plan and implement fundraising goals to gain new and upcoming sources of revenue for the Agency.
Agency/Program Management
- Develop and submit to the Board strategic plan proposals to establish and/or maintain Agency goals (one year, three year plans).
- Review Program/Agency progress and compare to goals and objectives
- Insure Agency compliance w/ National CASA standards and State requirements.
- Conduct monthly meetings with program staff to determine and discuss plans, problems, troubleshooting, etc. relating to the Program.
- Insure all necessary steps are taken to stay in compliance with all memberships, licenses, accreditations, reviews, etc.
- Prepare and present required reports for grantors, Board of Directors, Courts, etc.
- Maintain active communication with the Court and other child welfare agencies regarding Agency activities and/or directives.
- At least every two years, conduct the Agency Review per the instruction in the Agency’s Policy and Procedures.
- Maintain accurate data systems to track all children, cases, volunteers and recruits.
Community and Public/Professional Relations
- Coordinate public relations w/ the purpose of recruiting volunteers and increasing public awareness of the CASA program, its goals and activities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with all appropriate groups, agencies, organizations, other child advocacy agencies and community service organizations.
- Oversee release of press packets and news releases, and follow-up on any media coverage.
- Oversee and approve all public relations efforts by Agency, including print, video, webpage and others.
- Provide dispute resolution between Agency and conflicting parties, as necessary.
- Ensure regular presentations to area groups, churches, agencies and others with the goal of educating about CASA, developing partnerships, raising funds, in-kind donations and recruiting volunteers.
- Become aware of and participate positively in the debate of state and national policy with relation to the Agency’s mission.
Personnel Management
- Upon approval from the Board of Directors, hire and terminate Agency staff and volunteers.
- Supervise, educate, coach, promote, lead and counsel Agency staff and volunteers.
- Write and revise, as necessary, the job description for all staff and office volunteers (except Executive Director).
- Complete annual performance evaluations (oral and written) for all agency staff.
- Maintain accurate and confidential staff and volunteer personnel records.
- Appoint, with Board of Director’s approval, appropriate volunteers to seats and leadership positions in groups and committees.
- Assure that an adequate staffing pattern exits in office to cover business hours and operations.
- Institute a regular program of staff and volunteer training that is applicable, timely and educational that meets the requirements and standards of NCASAA.
- Maintain excellent, comprehensive certification training and mentoring programs that will prepare staff and volunteers to effectively carry out their duties.
Liaison to the Board of Directors
- Attend all Board meetings.
- Oversee implementation of all Board directives, policies and procedures.
- Serve as liaison between Board and Agency staff and volunteers.
- Monitor Board/Committee activities and attend committee meetings as needed.
- Provide and present Agency reports and statistics at all Board meetings.
Fiscal Management
- Manage day-to-day fiscal operations by making deposits and forwarding all accounts payable information to the accountant in a timely manner.
- Complete credit card transactions and send invoices and all information to the accountant on a monthly basis.
- Submit monthly and annual financial reports to grantors, as required.
- Review and approve all monthly and annual reports and documentation to substantiate those reports.
- Annually, develop the Agency’s annual budget and submit to the Board for approval.
- In collaboration with the accountant, prepare and submit needed information for the annual audit.
